World Development Report 2016: Digital Dividends

02.30 PM

98 Tô Ngọc Vân, Quảng An, Tây Hồ, Hà Nội

During the launch of the World Development Report 2016 in Vietnam, World Bank experts and some local leaders of technology – based and startup companies invite you to join a discussion on how startup and young companies can take advantage of digital technologies to provide services in a more efficient and innovative way.

The World Development Report (WDR) is the World Bank's most important analytical publication and has been published annually since 1979. This year’s report aims to expand our understanding of the impact of digital technologies on the lives of poor people in developing countries.

Digital technologies have spread rapidly in much of the world. And digital dividends—that is, the broader development benefits from using these technologies—have lagged behind. In many instances, digital technologies have boosted growth, expanded opportunities, and improved service delivery. While the internet, smart phones and other digital technologies are spreading rapidly throughout the developing countries, the anticipated expectation for digital dividends of higher growth, more jobs, and better public services have fallen: 60% of the world’s population remains excluded from the ever – expanding digital economy.
